Home / Drinking Water Filter Taps
A water filter for tap gives you a dedicated outlet for filtered drinking water at your kitchen sink. These standalone drinking water filter taps are installed alongside your existing kitchen tap and connect to an under sink drinking water filter.
Your normal kitchen tap continues to supply hot and cold mains water, while the separate filter tap dispenses filtered cold water only. It's a simple option if you're happy with your existing kitchen tap but want convenient filtered water for drinking, cooking, making hot drinks and filling reusable bottles.
Our range of drinking water filter taps includes different spout heights, reaches, lever styles and finishes, so you can choose a tap that works practically with your sink as well as complementing your kitchen.
The tap itself does not filter the water. It is the dedicated outlet for your under sink filtration system, so you can choose the drinking water filter that meets your filtration requirements separately from the style of tap you prefer. If you also need the filtration system, browse our Drinking Water Filters range.
If you want hot, cold and filtered water from one combined kitchen tap instead, that's a different type of product. See our 3 Way Filter Taps range.

A drinking water filter tap is a relatively simple piece of equipment, but there are several things worth checking before you buy one. Spout height and reach, the available space around your sink, the required mounting hole and the connection to your filtration system can all affect which tap is most suitable.
A drinking water filter tap is a separate tap dedicated to dispensing filtered cold water.
It normally sits on your sink or worktop alongside your existing kitchen tap. Underneath the sink, the drinking water tap is connected by small-diameter tubing to an under sink water filter.
When you open the filter tap, cold mains water passes through the filtration system before reaching the tap.
This arrangement keeps the filtered drinking water separate from the normal hot and cold water supplied by your existing kitchen tap.
It also means you don't have to filter all the water used at the kitchen sink. Water for washing dishes and general cleaning can continue to come through your existing tap, while the separately filtered supply is reserved for drinking and cooking.
One of the biggest advantages is that you can keep the kitchen tap you already have.
If you like your existing tap, it matches your kitchen or you've only recently replaced it, installing a separate filter tap means there's no reason to change it simply because you want filtered drinking water.
There are other practical advantages too:
For many households, it's a straightforward way to add filtered drinking water to the kitchen without changing the main tap.
The filter tap is only one part of the system.
A typical installation consists of:
Cold mains supply → drinking water filter → separate drinking water tap
The filtration system is usually installed inside the cupboard beneath the kitchen sink. A connection is taken from the cold water supply and directs water through the filter.
The treated water then travels through tubing to the drinking water filter tap above the sink.
This is why the tap itself isn't the water filter. The quality and type of filtration depend on the under sink filter or purifier connected to it.
That distinction is useful when you're shopping for a water filter for your tap. You can choose the filtration technology according to what you want to reduce from your drinking water and choose the tap according to its dimensions, appearance and practicality.
Yes, unless you already have a suitable under sink filtration system.
A standalone drinking water filter tap is designed to dispense the water produced by a separate filter. If you're replacing an existing filter tap and already have a filtration system installed, you may only need the new tap.
If you're starting from scratch, you'll normally need:
Different filtration systems are designed to address different water quality requirements, so we don't think the tap should dictate the filter you choose.
If you haven't chosen your filtration system yet, see our Drinking Water Filters range or contact us and we'll help you work out which type is most appropriate for your water and what you want to reduce.
The appearance of the tap matters, but we'd recommend checking the practical details before choosing purely on looks.
The reach is the horizontal distance the spout extends over the sink.
A longer reach can be useful with a larger sink or where the mounting position means the tap needs to extend further over the bowl.
Check the dimensional drawing on the individual product page and consider where the water will actually land in your sink.
A tall or swan neck tap provides more clearance underneath the spout, which can make it easier to fill bottles, jugs and kettles.
However, taller isn't automatically better.
If the filter tap is being installed close to a window, shelf or another tap, check the available space before ordering.
Remember that this is a second tap.
Look at the space around your existing kitchen tap and decide where the drinking water tap can be positioned without the two taps interfering with one another.
You should also consider whether the lever can move freely and whether the tap can comfortably reach the sink bowl from its mounting position.
A separate hole is required in the sink or worktop for a standalone drinking water filter tap.
Check the installation requirements for the individual tap before drilling. If you're unsure whether your sink or worktop is suitable, it's worth checking with your installer first.
Our drinking water filter taps are intended for use with under sink drinking water filtration systems, but fittings and tubing can vary.
Check the connection details shown on the individual product page, particularly if you're buying a replacement tap for a filter system you already own.
If you're buying both the filter and tap from us and you're unsure about compatibility, ask us before ordering.
Because the drinking water tap sits alongside your main kitchen tap, many people choose a similar finish so the two look as though they belong together.
Our range includes finishes such as chrome, brushed steel, stainless steel, brushed nickel and black, depending on the particular model.
You don't necessarily need an exact match. A complementary finish can work equally well, particularly if it ties in with your sink, handles or other kitchen fittings.
This is deliberately a separate decision from choosing the tap.
Your drinking water filter determines what is reduced from the water. The drinking water filter tap determines how that filtered water is dispensed.
For example, one household may simply want to improve chlorine taste and odour, while another may be concerned about particular contaminants and require a different type of filtration.
That's why we prefer to let you choose the filter and tap separately rather than assuming that one standard filter and tap combination is right for everyone.
If you're not sure where to start, our Drinking Water Filters category explains the different options available.
They both provide filtered drinking water at the kitchen sink, but they do it in different ways.
A standalone drinking water filter tap is installed alongside your existing kitchen tap and dispenses filtered cold water only.
A 3 way tap replaces your existing kitchen tap and provides hot mains water, cold mains water and filtered cold water from one combined unit.
Choose a standalone filter tap if you want to keep your existing kitchen tap.
If you want to replace your existing tap and have all three water supplies available from one unit, see our 3 way taps range instead.
Choosing a drinking water filter tap shouldn't just be about finding one that looks good in a photograph.
At Fountain Filters, we specialise in water filtration, so we understand the relationship between the tap, the filter, the tubing, the fittings and the way the complete system needs to work once it's installed.
We also believe you should be able to choose your drinking water tap and filtration system according to your own requirements rather than being forced into a predetermined filter and tap combination.
When you buy a drinking water tap from Fountain Filters, you benefit from:

A drinking water filter tap is a separate tap used exclusively for filtered cold water. It is normally installed beside your existing kitchen tap and connected to an under sink drinking water filtration system.
No. The tap dispenses the filtered water, but the filtration takes place in a separate system normally installed beneath the kitchen sink. This allows you to choose the tap and water filter separately.
That depends on what you mean by fitting a filter to the tap. The products on this page are standalone drinking water filter taps, not filters that screw onto the end of an existing kitchen tap. They are installed separately and connected to an under sink filtration system. If you want to keep your existing kitchen tap, you can install one of these taps alongside it.
Not necessarily. A standalone drinking water filter tap is one option and allows you to keep your existing tap. Alternatively, you can replace your existing kitchen tap with a 3 way tap that supplies hot, cold and filtered water from one unit.
It is normally installed through a suitable hole in the kitchen sink or worktop, close to your existing kitchen tap. The precise location will depend on your sink layout, available space and the dimensions of the tap.
Yes. If you already have an under sink drinking water filter and simply want to replace the tap, you can buy a standalone tap separately. Check the tubing and connection requirements of your existing system against the specifications of the replacement tap.
Check the spout height and reach, required mounting hole, available space around your existing kitchen tap, finish and connection requirements. The technical drawing on the individual product page should help you check whether a particular tap will suit your sink.
Many standalone drinking water taps can be used as the dedicated outlet for an under sink reverse osmosis system, provided the connections and system requirements are compatible. Check the specifications of both products or contact us if you're unsure.
