Choose this if

You're looking for an easy way to improve the taste and smell of your drinking water by reducing chlorine. The Pearl-T is a compact under sink drinking water filter that connects to it's own dedicated drinking water tap, providing fresh filtered water whenever you need it.

It's an excellent choice if your mains water has a noticeable chlorine taste or odour, you want a simple DIY installation, and you're looking for an economical alternative to bottled water or jug water filters.

Not ideal if

The Pearl-T is designed specifically for drinking water at a single tap. If you want filtered water throughout your home consider one of our whole house mains water filters such as the Moby or Doby). If your priority is reducing bacteria and cysts the Oyster TBC is a more suitable option. If you specifically need to reduce fluoride, our dedicated fluoride filters will be a better choice.

What to check before buying

• Available space: The filter housing is compact but you'll need approximately 34cm high x 14cm wide x 13cm deep, with enough room beneath the housing to allow for future cartridge changes.
• Drinking water tap: Choose one of our dedicated drinking water taps, or select 'no tap' if you're connecting to an existing filter tap or a compatible 3 way kitchen tap.
• Water supply connection: Select either a 15mm compression valve or self-piercing saddle valve, depending on your plumbing setup and preference.
• Cartridge choice: The supplied 5 micron activated carbon block cartridge is suitable for most households, reducing chlorine, unpleasant taste and odours. If your mains water has a particularly strong chlorine taste, the 0.5 micron chlorine guzzler offers enhanced chlorine reduction together with finer sediment filtration.

What it reduces and what it doesn't 

The Pearl-T reduces:

• Chlorine: Helps reduce up to 99% of chlorine, helping improve the taste and smell of mains drinking water.
• Sediment: Filters out fine particles such as sand, rust and other suspended solids that can affect water clarity.
• Microplastics: Reduces particles down to 5 microns as standard, or to 0.5 microns when fitted with the optional chlorine guzzler cartridge.
• PFAS: the activated carbon cartridge is designed to reduce certain PFAS compounds where present in the water supply.
• Taste and odour affecting chemicals: Activated carbon helps reduce a range of compounds that can leave drinking water tasting or smelling unpleasant.

The Pearl-T doesn't reduce:

• Fluoride: If fluoride reduction is your priority, please see our dedicated fluoride water filters.
• Limescale and water hardness: Unless the optional hardness reduction insert is fitted.
• Bacteria and micro-organisms: This filter is not designed for microbiological purification.
• Heavy metals: If you're looking to reduce metals such as lead or copper, we recommend choosing a filter specifically designed for that purpose.
• Naturally occuring dissolved minerals: Beneficial minerals such as calcium and magnesium remain in the water, so the Pearl-T improves taste without producing demineralised water.

How it works

Mains drinking water is disinfected with chlorine or chloramine to help protect against harmful bacteria and other microorganisms as it travels through the water distribution network. This treatment is essential for maintaining safe drinking water, but it can leave some supplies with a noticeable taste or smell that many people would rather avoid.

The Pearl-T improves the taste and odour of your drinking water by passing it through a high-quality activated carbon block cartridge. As the water flows through the filter, chlorine and other taste and odour affecting compounds are adsorbed onto the carbon, while fine sediment, rust and other particles are trapped within the filter media.

Unlike loose granulated activated carbon (GAC), a carbon block provides more consistent contact between the carbon and the water. This helps deliver more effective chlorine reduction, improved filtration performance and a reliable flow of fresh tasting drinking water throughout the life of the cartridge.

* On some occasions a different brand of water filter cartridge may be used in the kit. This does the same job as the Watts F109009.

Installation & placement

The Pearl-T is designed to be installed on the cold water supply feeding your dedicated drinking water tap. In most kitchens the filter housing is fitted neatly beneath the sink, although it can also be installed in another suitable location where access for future cartridge replacement is available.

Installation is straightforward for anyone with basic DIY skills and full fitting instructions are included with every filter. You can also download the installation guide if you prefer to view it before fitting the system.

Maintenance & running costs

For the best filtration performance, we recommend replacing the activated carbon block cartridge every 12 months, or sooner if you notice the taste or smell of chlorine beginning to return. Regular cartridge replacement helps maintain effective chlorine, taste and odour reduction.

Replacement cartridges are quick to change and inexpensive to run, making the Pearl-T a cost effective alternative to bottled water and filter jugs.

To make maintenance even easier, we'll send you a reminder email so you don't have to remember when your next cartridge is due. You can buy the standard replacement cartridge or the Chlorine Guzzler cartridge whenever you need them.

FAQs

Does the Pearl-T need it's own tap?

Yes. The Pearl-T is supplied with a dedicated drinking water tap, allowing filtered water to be kept separate from your normal hot and cold kitchen tap. If you already have a compatible filter tap, or you're fitting a 3-way kitchen tap, simply select the 'No Tap' option when ordering.

Can I install the Pearl-T myself?

Yes. The Pearl-T is designed for DIY installation and is supplied with full fitting instructions. Most customers with basic DIY skills can install the system without needing a plumber.

What does the Pearl-T remove?

The activated carbon block cartridge helps reduce chlorine, unpleasant tastes and odours, sediment, rust, sand and microplastics. It is designed to improve the quality and taste of your drinking water while leaving naturally occurring minerals such as calcium and magnesium in the water.

What doesn't the Pearl-T remove?

The Pearl-T is not designed to reduce fluoride, bacteria, heavy metals or water hardness as standard. If you need these contaminants reduced, we offer filters specifically designed for those applications.

What's the difference between the standard cartridge and the Chlorine Guzzler?

The standard 5 micron activated carbon block cartridge is suitable for most households and provides excellent chlorine, taste and odour reduction. The optional 0.5 micron Chlorine Guzzler offers finer particle filtration together with enhanced chlorine reduction, making it ideal where mains water has a particularly noticeable chlorine taste.

How often does the cartridge need replacing?

For best performance, replace the cartridge every 12 months, or sooner if you notice the taste or smell of chlorine beginning to return. Replacement cartridges are quick to change, and we'll send you a reminder email so you know when it's time for a new one.

Will the Pearl-T reduce the pressure from my drinking water tap?

The Pearl-T is designed to provide a good flow rate for normal drinking water use. As with any water filter, the flow will gradually reduce as the cartridge reaches the end of its service life, which is why regular cartridge replacement is recommended.

Is the Pearl-T suitable for all mains water supplies?

The Pearl-T is designed for use on treated mains drinking water. It is not intended for untreated water from private wells, boreholes or other supplies where microbiological contamination may be present.
