Tired of limescale and rust build up in your kitchen appliances? Our Pearl hard water filter will sort all that out for you.

SKU: FFFKPH02

Product Description

Our Pearl hard water filter is suitable for moderately hard water areas. This hard water filter improves the taste and odour of your water, removes chlorine and sediments and reduces it's hardness.

Effectively prevents limescale and rust build up in your household appliances such as kettles, coffee machines, taps, electric showers, water heaters and many other types of cold water processing equipment.

How hard is my water? In the north and west of the UK the water is naturally soft, wheras, in the south and east it is naturally hard. Approximately 60% of houses in the UK have hard water.

Have a read of our blog post 'Hard Water in the UK'. It's full of useful information about hard water and it's effects.

The Pearl hard water filter is suitable for under sink or counter top mounting.

The housing dimensions are 34H x 14W x 13D (volume occupied in cm).

Your kit will include:

  • 1 x white filter housing
  • 1 x single white housing bracket
  • 1 x 5 micron activated carbon block cartridge (F109009) with a minimum of 100m/l of siliphos crystals inserted into the middle of the carbon block. These crystals are held in with 2 retainer clips.
  • A choice of drinking water filter taps or you can choose the 'no tap' option. You would choose the 'no tap' option if you already have a tap or wish to buy a 3 way tap.
  • Either a self-piercing saddle valve or a 15mm compression valve.
  • Blue tubing (approximately 2 metres)
  • Red tubing (approximately 2 metres)
  • 1 x housing spanner
  • DIY instructions - No need for a plumber!

Cartridge details:

  • Watts F109009 coconut shell carbon block filter cartridge for chlorine, taste and odour reduction.*
  • 100m/l of siliphos crystals inserted into the middle of the carbon block filter cartridge to reduce hardness.
  • 2 x 2.5 x 10" water filter cartridges
  • 5 micron - up to 99% chlorine removal.
  • Chlorine reduction >4,000 gallons @ 1.0gsm or 12 months; whichever comes first.
  • Thick wall carbon construction for superior performance.
  • Outperforms granulated activated carbon (GAC) cartridges as it has superior chlorine reduction, lower pressure drop and will not channel.
  • Media wrap between centre tube and carbon block to reduce carbon fibres.
  • Maximum operating pressure - 125psi.
  • Operating temperature - 50°F to 125°F / 10°C to 52°C.
  • Tested and certified NSF/ANSI standard 42 for materials only.
  • FDA grade components and materials.
  • Tested and verified by independent lab testing.

*On some occasions a different brand of water filter cartridge may be used in the kit. This will do the same job as the Watts F109009.

What are the effects of hard water?

It's the dissolved minerals in hard water that gives it the following characteristics:

  • Scale and scum formation. For example, either on the surface of the water or around hand basins and baths.
  • Difficulty in getting a soapy lather. This is caused by the calcium in the hard water reacting with soaps and detergents.

The minerals that contribute to water hardness are calcium and magnesium, mainly in combination with bicarbonate, sulphate and chloride. When hard water is heated above 61° (or as it evaporates) the balance between the dissolved minerals is upset and the bicarbonate converts to carbonate. This is where you get the calcium carbonate scale (limescale).

How is hard water measured?

Hardness in water is measured in mg/l or ppm (parts per million) of calcium carbonate equivalent (the main component of limescale). The word equivalent is used to show that it is not calcium carbonate that is being measured (it cannot be as calcium carbonate is not present in water) but that the amount of different hardness minerals present in the water is chemically equivalent to an amount of calcium carbonate.

Classification hardness in mg/L hardness in mmol/L hardness in dGH/°dH hardness in gpg hardness in ppm
Soft 0-60 0-0.60 0-3.37 0-3.50 less than 60
Moderately hard 61-120 0.61-1.20 3.38-6.74 3.56-7.01 60-120
Hard 121-180 1.21-1.80 6.75-10.11 7.06-10.51 120-180
Very Hard >181 >1.81 >10.12 >10.57 >181
