How often to change and signs it needs changing

Replacing your fridge filter every 6 months helps ensure your water and ice stay fresh-tasting and clean. An old filter can become clogged over time, reducing water flow and its ability to effectively filter contaminants.

How to replace

To change your fridge filter cartridge simply follow these 6 quick and easy steps:

  1. Turn off the water supply.
  2. Remove the old filter by turning it counterclockwise and pulling it out.
  3. Remove the cap from the new filter, insert it into the fridge, and turn it clockwise until it locks into place.
  4. Turn the water supply back on and check for leaks.
  5. Flush the filter by dispensing about 8 cups of water.
  6. Reset the filter indicator light, if your refrigerator has one.

FAQs

How do I know if my fridge water filter needs replacing?

Common signs include a slower water flow, unusual taste or odour in your water, cloudy ice cubes, or the filter replacement indicator light turning on. For best performance, it's recommended to replace your filter cartridge every 6 months.

Can an old fridge water filter make water taste bad?

Yes. Over time, water filters become saturated with contaminants and lose their ability to effectively reduce chlorine and other impurities. This can lead to unpleasant tastes and odours in both your drinking water and ice.

Do I need to turn off the water supply before changing my fridge filter?

While some refrigerator models allow for filter replacement without shutting off the water supply, turning it off is recommended to help prevent leaks and make the installation process easier.
