New Moby Doulton Rio Carousel

WE ARE UNABLE TO GET HOLD OF DOULTON RIO CANDLES ANYMORE - THIS IS OUR RECOMMENDED ALTERNATIVE. IT DOES THE SAME JOB BUT WITH A HIGHER FLOW RATE.

This is our replacement cartridge for our Moby Rio water filter. You would install our Moby Rio water filter on any private water supply when you want to get rid of bacteria and other biological contamination and don't want to or can't use ultra violet (UV) filtration. You can also install the Moby Rio on mains water if you ever get advice from your water company about needing to boil your water before drinking.

You do need decent water pressure of 2 bar or above to enjoy the benefits of our Moby Rio system.

The Moby Rio requires no electricity and is therefore a cost effective alternative to UV.

The sterasyl cartridges are scrubbable with a brush, which is supplied as part of this kit. When the flow rate drops because of fouling, take the cartridges out and scour them with the brush.

If your water is clear after installing the Moby Rio, you probably do not pre-filtration. We suggest you proceed with the Moby Rio only and add a pre-filter later if you find that you are having to clean the cartridges too frequently. If your water is discoloured or not clear, then you will need to pre-filter. At 0.5micron nominal to 0.9 micron absolute; the 6 sterasyls will foul very quickly. Cartridge details:

• W9381000 Rio 2000 multi-candle filter module comprising of 6 bespoke Sterasyl® candles which are 1.2" wide x 8" long.
• Filtration rating (Absolute) defined as >99.99% - 0.9 microns
• Filtration rating (Nominal) defined as >99.9% - 0.5 to 0.8 microns
• High flow, compact filtration for the home and light commercial applications
• Filters out Pathogenic bacteria (E-coli, Cholera, Typhoid, Salmonella, etc), Cysts (Cryptosporidium, Giardia, etc), Sub micron particle contamination and Turbidity
• Offers a superior flow rate of up to 400 gallons (1500 litres) per hour at 4 bar of pressure. This is dependent on water quality and fittings used.

We send out an email every 6 months to remind you to check your filter performance.

Filter Cartridge Assembly

Take the manifold assembly B and ensure that the rubber seal A is correctly located into the recess. Push the centre support tube C securely into the centre recess on the underside of the manifold. Remove each of the six ceramic filter candles E from its protective wrap and check that the o-ring seal D is located fully onto the threaded mount of the filter candle. Screw the threaded mount into one of the holes in the underside of the manifold until washer resistance is felt and the moulded cap just touches the ring on the underside of the manifold B. Do not over tighten. Repeat for all six filter candles. Take the base moulding F, ensure that the rubber seal G is located correctly into the recess and push the base securely onto the support tube C to complete the assembly.

Why do I need to change the o-ring?

You can tell if the seals start leaking, which is obvious, I know.

Even if there are no leaks you may find that the profile of the O ring becomes flattened because of prolonged time under compression. The cross section should be round and if it's not it may not seal easily.

However, I recommend that you replace the O rings every two or three years as a precautionary measure.

One of the main reasons for changing O rings periodically is that as they age and compress, the housing bowl needs to be tightened excessively. That leads to difficulty loosening the bowl from the cap next time the cartridge needs to be replaced.
