Overview

The Water-to-Go Active Filter bottle combines Water-to-Go's 3-in-1 filtration technology with a bottle designed for sport, outdoor activities and drinking on the move.

Unlike the Classic Water-to-Go bottle, the Active has a squeezable body and faster-flow drinking spout, making it easier to take a quick drink while walking, cycling or exercising. The single-handed click lid also protects the drinking spout when it's not in use; particularly useful when your bottle is being carried in a bike cage, backpack or outdoors.

As you drink, water passes through the built-in-3-in-1 filter, helping reduce bacteria, viruses, parasites and a range of other contaminants. This means you can refill from suitable taps and freshwater sources rather than relying on bottled water when you're travelling or exploring outdoors.

• You want to filter seawater or saltwater. Water-to-Go filters are designed for freshwater and do not desalinate water.
• Your water source is known to contain dangerous concentrations of industrial chemicals, fuel or other hazardous substances.
• You need filtered water for several people at once. These are personal filter bottles designed for individual use.

What to check before buying

Choose the capacity that best matches how you'll use the bottle. The 750ml Active is lighter and more compact, making it particularly convenient for sport, cycling and shorter outings. Choose the 1 litre Active if you'd rather carry more water between refills on longer hikes, camping trips or days out.

Remember that the advantage of a filter bottle is that you don't necessarily need to carry all the water you'll need for the entire day. Where suitable freshwater sources are available, you can refill and filter as you go.

If you're planning a longer trip or expedition, consider taking a spare Water-to-Go replacement filter, particularly if replacements may be difficult to find at your destination.

Water-to-Go states that its filtration technology eliminates up to 99.9999% of microbiological contaminants, with its 3-in-1 filtration technology providing protection beyond that of a conventional carbon filter bottle.

What it doesn't do

The Water-to-Go Active is designed for freshwater only. It does not remove salt from seawater and should not be used as a desalination filter.

It should also not be relied upon for water known or suspected to contain dangerous concentrations of industrial chemicals, fuel or other toxic substances. When filling from an outdoor source, always choose the cleanest freshwater available.

Where possible, avoid heavily muddy or sediment-laden water. Although the filter reduces particles and sediment, unnecessarily dirty water can affect flow and shorten the useful life of the filter.

How it works

The Water-to-Go Active uses 3-in-1 filtration technology to filter the water as you drink, combining physical filtration, activated carbon and electropositive filtration in one replaceable filter.

1. Mechanical filtration - a microscopic pore structure physically traps contaminants such as bacteria, parasites, sediment and other particles.
2. Activated carbon - helps reduce chlorine, unpleasant tastes and odours, as well as a range of chemicals and contaminants that can affect drinking water quality.
3. Electropositive filtration - the filter carries a positive electrical charge that attracts negatively charged contaminants, including extremely small microorganisms such as viruses, helping capture contaminants smaller than the filter's physical pores.

With the Active bottle, the squeezable body helps push water through the filter, while the faster-flow drinking spout makes it easier to hydrate when you're exercising or on the move.

There are no pumps, batteries or additional purification equipment to carry. Fill the bottle from a suitable freshwater source, drink through the filtered spout and filter your water as you go.

How to use

The Water-to-Go Active is designed for quick, convenient filtration while you're on the move.

1. Fill the bottle with suitable freshwater.
2. If you're using a new or completely dry filter, activate it according to the Water-to-Go instructions before drinking.
3. Secure the lid and filter firmly onto the bottle.
4. Open the protective drinking cap and gently squeeze the bottle as you drink to help water flow through the filter.
5. When filling from rivers or streams, choose the cleanest freshwater source available and avoid heavily muddy or visibly polluted water.
6. After use, keep the bottle, lid and drinking spout clean, particularly when you've been using it outdoors.

Do not use the Active botle with seawater or saltwater, or with water known to contain dangerous concentrations of chemicals, fuel or other hazardous substances.

The squeezable bottle and faster-flow drinking system are particularly useful when cycling, running or walking, as you can take a drink quickly without having to stop and operate separate filtration equipment.

Maintenance & running costs

The Water-to-Go Active is designed to be reused, with only the filter needing regular replacement.

Each filter treats up to 200 litres of water, so how long it lasts will depend on how frequently you use your bottle.

To keep your Active bottle in good condition:

• Wash the bottle regularly with warm water and mild washing up liquid.
• Keep the lid and drinking spout clean, particularly after cycling, running or using the bottle outdoors.
• Replace the filter when it reaches its recommended 200-litre capacity or the manufacturer's specified replacement interval.
• If the flow through the bottle becomes noticeably more difficult, check whether the filter is approaching the end of its useful life.
• Allow the bottle to dry properly before storing it for longer periods.

You don't need to replace the bottle when the filter reaches the end of its life. Simply fit a new Water-to-Go filter and continue using your Active bottle.

For regular use or long trips, keeping a spare filter available means you won't be caught without filtration when the current one needs replacing.
